Meet the Instructor: Kate Hore-Lacy

business meet the instructor mindset

Kate Hore-Lacy is a passionate business, sales, and mindset mentor. Creator of the LinkedIn Lead Generation Summit and Founder of the acclaimed Sales Success Bootcamp, it's safe to say that Kate lives and breathes the business of sales — but at her core, she is driven by bringing out the best in people.

Starting her career in sales at the age of 19, Kate went on to work in recruitment and then took a right turn to become a professional singer. However, some curveballs led Kate to feel stuck and in search of her true purpose. Today, she has coached over 100 entrepreneurs and is thriving — working in a field that she loves.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am passionate about making businesses work better! I see and bring out what people can’t see themselves, I help them tweak the key areas of their business – their messaging, their marketing, their offers – so they feel clear and confident. And instead of dreading “sales conversations” they have a sense of certainty and can communicate what’s special about them and what they do so sales happen easily and organically.

On a personal level I think dogs are THE greatest creation on earth! I also love people in all their weirdness and innate goodness. I am a water bunny, I love yoga and am on a mission to be more present. As a coach, I love to make things that are scary or complex simple and doable. I live to help people lean into their resistance and break through what holds them back, so they SHINE!

And how did you get into the career you’re in now?

I fell into sales and sales training early – when I was just 19 and missed out on going to NIDA. I loved the people aspect of sales and training, and always did well, going on to be (apparently) Australia’s top recruitment agent. I left when I got a break to become a professional singer. I loved my career, doing over 1,500 gigs around Australia and was flown to the USA to cut a record with my original material (which painfully fell through when the record company went broke). I was feeling stuck and no longer enjoying my gigs. My passion felt like a prison but I didn’t know what to do next. I didn’t want to go back to corporate. So I prayed (pleaded) for my next step.

Within a couple of days one of my best friends confided in me that she had just had 22 discovery sessions and not ONE person had said yes. She said, “you used to be great at sales. Can you help me?” Of course I said YES – and I discovered something life changing for myself; that you can be smart and have something great to offer but if you don’t understand how to communicate it you won’t get the sale.

Because I learnt to sell so early on I thought everyone knew this stuff! I began training her and she got great results really quickly. After just two sessions, she closed her first high end client from using a closing technique I taught her, she started answering objections like a pro. She went from hating sales to saying it was actually kinda fun! That’s when she suggested I teach other people this stuff and turn it into a business. So I did! Seven years on I now help people and companies all over the world helping them align the pieces of their business and communicate their offers with clarity and confidence.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job?

I love it when something clicks! When something that seemed SO hard becomes easy. When people discover they are greater and more capable than they previously thought. When they can bring the fullness of what they do out into the world to help change it in a positive way.

What motivates you?

It motivates me when I see people taking action on the strategies I’m giving them. When they suddenly find themselves doing something they thought was not possible for them.

Who inspires you?

My Mum is the best person I know. She is grounded, loving, caring, intelligent and an all-around earth angel. In business I love Shanda Sumpter – for her no-nonsense action orientated coaching style which I resonate with and is similar to my approach.

What’s one piece of wisdom that you apply to your career?

Even if you can’t immediately see the result you hoped for, each experience is carving the coal away from the diamond – that is you. Just keeping going, do your best and take imperfect action. The dots will (in time) connect and you’ll discover what a powerhouse you’ve become.

Can you share a career highlight?

I love putting on the LinkedIn Lead Generation Summit which has helped over 5,000 people use the platform to expand their reach, help others and attract their perfect fit clients.

I’ve sold over a quarter of a million in coaching programs in 3.5 days which was exhilarating.
