How to create a day spa at home

self care tips wellness

Between work, study and the pressures of everyday life, it’s easy to feel run down and in need of rejuvenation. Never fear, self-care doesn’t have to be expensive! With some creativity and simple preparations, you can indulge the senses and enjoy a luxurious spa experience in the comfort of your own home.

Get ready to nurture your body and soul and bring peace through pause with our tips for creating the perfect home day spa experience.

It’s all about ambiance

Take some time to set the mood – you won’t regret it. Create a peaceful and calming atmosphere by lowering the lights, playing soothing music, lighting candles or diffusing essential oils.

Prepare your space and ready yourself for relaxation. Ensure you are completely comfortable and have some fluffy towels and face cloths ready!

Treat yourself (and your senses)

Indulgent facials and body treatments are possible without even leaving the house!

Kick off your home day spa experience with a warm bath or foot spa. Simply soak in a warm bath or just soak your feet with Epsom salts and essential oils. This will help to loosen up your muscles, ease tension and promote relaxation.

Make friends with nourishing masks – it could be a hair mask, face mask or both! Don't be afraid to get creative with your self-care products.

Coconut oil works wonders as a 20-minute hair mask while you’re soaking away in the bath. If you’re feeling adventurous, apply your own DIY face mask mixture using: 1 tsp honey, 1 tsp Greek yogurt, and 1⁄2 tsp turmeric (be sure to exercise caution as turmeric can stain).

Don’t forget to place some cucumber slices over your eyes for 10-15 minutes for the true spa experience.

Say goodbye to dead skin cells and hello to improved circulation with a gentle body scrub. Try to focus on dry and rough areas like elbows, knees and feet for the smoothest results.

Don’t rush the experience – relish it!

No one ever wants to leave a day spa, and the benefit of being at home is, you don’t have to! Minimise the need to rush and maximise your relaxation.

Some of our favourite ways to extend the experience include:

  • Taking the time to rinse off your face mask and/or hair mask.
  • Changing into some comfortable clothes.
  • Applying a homemade face moisturiser for added nourishment and glow.
  • Massaging your feet with a rich foot cream
  • Putting on some socks to lock in moisture.
  • Enjoying a relaxing tea – tea formulated with herbs like fennel, chamomile and liquorice root are effective relaxation aids. It’s important to note that Liquorice tea is not recommended if you are pregnant or experiencing high blood pressure.

Creating a day spa experience at home doesn't have to be complicated or costly. It's a way to honour yourself with care and moments of tranquillity. Remember, small steps can have a significant impact on our well-being and our path to wellness. So, take a moment to immerse yourself in the blissful oasis of your own home spa – your mind and your body will thank you for it!

"I have just started a short online course over the weekend and I am really enjoying it. I am considering going back to more formal studies, but it has been many, many years since I have studied and wasn't sure how I would go and how I would function with online work and material. The online short courses are brilliant and I am really enjoying the course content!"
